The 16th China Air Cargo Summit 2019 has been successfully held in Hangzhou on November 12-14, 2019 at Le Méridien Hangzhou Binjiang. The Summit is organized by Summit Asia Events, and hosted by Zhejiang Provincial Airport Group and Management Committee of Hangzhou Airport Economic Zone. It is also held in partnership with Cainiao Network Technology Co Ltd and Sinotrans Global e-Commerce Logistics Co Ltd.
The Summit is themed “e-Commerce and cargo innovations under trade slowdown”. And it brings about approximately 300 delegates from 100 organizations in 30 countries and territories around the world.
The current air cargo market is not optimistic due to the weak demand from global trade. In the first quarter of this year, global trade recorded its worst performance since the 2008 global financial crisis. As the barometer of the global economy, air cargo dropped 2% in its global demand over a year ago. China is no exception. According to the statistics published by the Civil Aviation Administration of China, in the first quarter of this year, the cargo and mail throughput of the Chinese civil aviation industry reduced by 1.9% over a year ago, and the cargo and mail throughput of Chinese airports decreased by 2.4% year-on-year to 3.761 million tons. The trade friction between China and the US could further impact on the air cargo market. Therefore, it has become a common concern among the industry stakeholders as to how to respond to this situation to minimize the impact and find a way out.
Hangzhou where this year’s event will take place, is a core city of the Yangtze River Delta as well as the political, economic, cultural, educational, transportation and financial centers of Zhejiang province. It is also an important international e-commerce center. It has the record of successfully hosting the 2016 G20 Summit and will also host the 2022 Asian Games.
